Gyptian’s New LP for VP
Gyptian is already working on his third album for VP. The album is tentatively titled Hold Yuh. Jus One, FX and Ricky Blaze are the producers who have already contributed to the project. “We’re looking at dropping the album around July and if everyone in Jamaica buys a copy, I am sure it can sell a million,” Gyptian said jokingly.
International Reggae And World Music Awards Set for Sunday, May 2 2010
According to IRAWMA producer, Ephraim Martin, the Best African Entertainer category is making national news in Nigeria, Ghana and Mali. Nominees include Samini (Ghana), D’Banj (Nigeria), Femi Kuti (Nigeria), Amadou and Mariam (Mali) and 2Face Ibidia- (Nigeria). Although three of the nominees are from Nigeria where the news is big, it is Ghanaian nominee Samini who is the talk of his native country. The publisher of the African Spectrum Newspaper, Berko Akoto, is quoted as saying, “The news is so big I have already made my flight reservation to attend and cover the event.”
TUFF GONG CELEBRATES ZIGGY, STEPHEN GRAMMY WINS
The atmosphere last week Friday at the corner of Marcus Garvey Drive and Bell Road was festive as Tuff Gong International celebrated the recent Grammy awards for Ziggy Marley’s Family Time and Stephen Marley’s Mind Control (Acoustic) albums. A number of musicians, fans and media representatives turned out for the celebration, however, guests had been advised that neither Ziggy nor Stephen would be present.

Reggae Legend Jimmy Cliff Returns With U.S. Tour
Grammy-winning Jimmy Cliff returns to the world stage in 2010 with his fullest slate of activity in decades. On March 15, he will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at a ceremony in New York City. Wyclef Jean will induct Cliff, who is also scheduled to perform that evening. The ceremony will air live on Fuse TV.

JAMAICA JOURNAL — FIRST EDITION ON JAMAICAN MUSIC LAUNCHED
Two special acts which took place were the official launch of the music edition of Jamaica Journal and the handing over of the Dermott Hussey’s Collection to the Jamaica Music Museum. A rather glossy publication with large images of Queen Ifrica and Etana on the cover over the caption Lionesses on the Rise, this issue of Jamaica Journal is largely examining various aspects of Jamaican music from its folk origin to its current popular incarnation.
Capleton Ousted from Oakland Concert
The Bay Area Reporter, a newspaper serving the gay community, quoted organizers of the tour as saying Jamaican-born singer/rapper Capleton has been dropped from the lineup at each of the reggae tour’s California stops. Organizers did not say why Capleton was dropped, although the move was made after the Reporter sent translations of Capleton’s lyrics to Moss Jacobs, a co-producer of the Oakland Ragga Muffins Festival show. The festival will still go on today, with performers including Gregory Isaacs, Barrington Levy, Michael Rose and Cocoa Tea.
