Bunny ran through a list of his power songs and some of reggae musics biggest hits in an energy packed set that just screamed raw fire. Bunny is almost as old as dirt but he kicked it across the stage like a teenage boy strutting his new suit and he was having fun for sure. The Smile Jamaica Africa Unite Concerts are in tribute to an old friend of Mr Wailer and Bunny paid his respect to Bob and Marley Clan during his set.

The people of Whitehouse Jamaica came out in force and the place was jamming all night long. Beenie belted out his top dancehall hits of the past 15 years and the crowd sucked up every second of it they could. The show was non stop and Jamaicans partied it up for hours with the King of Dancehall as he strutted from one side of that small stage to the other.

Things were so informal that just about anyone ended up on stage after long and at one point there was an actual fight on stage that Beenie Man himself had to breakup. It was hot and the crowd was pumped up. I guess tempers flared but Beenie put things to rest fast and the party went on without a hitch.

It was a show to remember for me and the people of Whitehouse.

With smash hits, sold-out tours and inspirational messages, the Third World Band will kick into a high gear the celebration of their milestone Anniversary.  The Reggae Ambassadors will officially launch a year-long celebration at the 2010 Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival on Saturday, January 30^th in Trelawny, Jamaica.

Celebrating 35 years in the industry, Third World – one of the longest running Reggae band – is an institution that produces and performs music that is cutting edge, positive, progressive and internationally relevant. Formed in 1973, the group has released a total of 22 albums as well as solo projects from Lead Singer Bunny Rugs and Guitarist Cat Coore.  This does not include their new unreleased album entitled “Patriots” which will be released in early 2010.  They have received numerous awards, including an Award in 2009 from Brooklyn Academy of Music (“BAM”), the 1986 “United Nations Peace Medal,” 1992 and 1996 Jamaica Music Industry Awards for Best Show Band and 10 Grammy nominations.  Additionally, the group has worked and collaborated with top acts such as the Jackson Five, Bob Marley and The Wailers and Stevie Wonder.

On January 30, 2010, Third World will add yet another accomplishment to their already impressive resume as the Group is slated to share the main stage with chart topping acts such as Grammy winning R&B crooner Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Erykah Badu along with Gladys Knight, Billy Ocean, The Whispers, Joss Stone, Monty Alexander, Joe Roy Jackson and the Queens Project featuring Tamia, Kelly Price and Deborah Cox. Patrons can expect to see the Third World Band perform international hit singles and fan favorites such as “Now That We’ve Found Love,” “96 Degrees in the Shade,” “Try Jah Love,” and “Sense of Purpose.”

Turn-Key Productions 14^th staging of the Jazz and Blues festival, which is known for attracting thousands of patrons and media outlets from the United States, Europe and the Caribbean, is being sponsored by the Jamaica Tourist Board, Air Jamaica, Iberostar, Rose Hall Resort and Spa, CVM TV and the Gleaner Company.  As stated by Richard Daley, Bass player and original member, “It is a great honor for us to perform at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival.  It is the perfect event for us to kick-off our year-long 35^thAnniversary celebration.”

The prestigious Excellence In Music and Entertainment (EME)  Awards is back and this year’s staging of the event will be  on Thursday February 4, at the Gardens at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, 81 Knutsford Boulevard, Kingston. The EME Awards is the brain child of popular radio personality Richard ‘Richie B’ Burgess. He created this award show to honor the players in the local music industry, both past and present, for their hard work in creating and maintaining excellence within our rich musical culture. The EME Awards is a non-profit venture.

Since its humble beginnings back in  2005, as a small in studio production, the Excellence In Music  and Entertainment (EME) Awards has grown to become one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the local entertainment calendar , due primarily,to its high production standards. The EME  Awards has  garnered unwavering support and popularity through the years and has attracted coverage from both the local and international media. Last year, the presence of America’s  BETJ Channel, provided quite a fillip for the EMEs and their repeat airings of the event has  definitely added to the excitement both here and abroad.  Over 85% of the awardees were in attendance for both the 2008 and 2009  staging and the organizers hope to improve on that this year. This is a clear indication of the respect the industry has for this event. 2010 promises to be even bigger and better.
